APENDIX 1

Instruction at the station of NoSA1

 Info : Individual A has 47 chromosomes (one extra 21st chromosome).  Some
characteristics are short broad hands, short height, broad head, round face, large tongue,
slanting eyes, and may have cognitive disabilities.

          Activity 1

1.      Identify chromosome 21 on the handout of karyotype given
2.      Place the chromosome 21 cut given, on circle A of the meiosis layout on the
       manila card.
3.      Draw the chromosome in step 2 in in the blank drawing diagram given.

 
Non-disjunction of meiosis I

4.      Move chromosome from circle A to circle B1
5.      Draw the chromosome in B1 in the drawing diagram given
6.      Cut the chromosome to separate homologous chromosome and move the cut      
       chromosome to circle C3 and C4
7.      Draw all the gametes  formed in the drawing diagram given



Nondisjunction of Meiosis II

8.     Repeat step 1-3
9.     Cut the chromosome to separate homologous chromosome in A
10.  Move the separated homologous chromosome into B1 and B2.
11.  Draw the diagram of B1 and B2
12.  Move chromosome in B1 to C1
13.  Cut sister chromatids in B2 and move the separated sister chromatids into C3 and
       C4
14.  Draw all the gamets formed.

          Activity 2

1.      Take one normal gamet from the box given
2.      Place it D1 on the manila card
3.      Choose one of the abnormal gamete (n-1) for trisomy 21 in C1, C2,C3 or C4
4.      Draw D2 and D3 your drawing diagram.

Info  :Individual B has 45 chromosomes(less one 21st chromosome). Some characteristics
           are short distance between eyed, large ears and contracted muscle.

5.      Draw the chromosome in B1 in the drawing diagram given
